^I agree. I think once Zuko would grow out of that awkwardness a bit. Not entirely, but I don't think he would be exactly like he was at 16. I also noticed that most of his awkardness had to do with the social stuff. In S1, he wasn't very awkward because he was in his element, leading and fighting and running his ship. He came across pretty smooth to me actually, not awkward at all. But when he's doing social stuff like dates and what not, he becomes more awkward. Azula is kind of the same way. It also depends on who he's around. With Katara, he didn't seem that awkward to me. I think Zuko is different in all three seasons to be honest. I like stories that transition from S1 to S3 Zuko. Because I kind of like the hard, cold side of him and seeing that transition into something warmer.

Exactly. My biggest beef with older Zuko is that he's often unrecognizable as the Zuko from the show. He wouldn't act like a sixteen year old, but he should still have some Zuko qualities. Otherwise, I'm just left thinking "who is this guy?" It's like the only thing connecting him to the Zuko we know is the occasional flashback or reference to prior events.

I enjoy S1-3 Zuko the best. A problem I can have with a post-war, older Zuko is that some people will still keep him very awkward. If it's only a few years after the series that's okay, but if it's years later I really don't see Zuko remaining so awkward. He's the Fire Lord. At some point he would have developed the temper to become an excellent ruler, which would prevent him from being so awkward and bumbling. He can still have his awkward moments, in private (and I would adore that), but not S3 Zuko who was a bundle of nerves and awkwardness because he was trying to win over the gaang. Heck, S1 Zuko had way more confidence than S3 Zuko (until he trained with the dragons). This, pretty much. And even then, he tends to 'catch on' pretty quickly. Even the Zuko post-acceptance is a far cry from the Zuko pre-acceptance- he tends to crack out the odd quip and such (and not just 'tea joke' kind, stuff that actually makes the Gaang laugh lol), and he isn't.. well, QUITE as outwardly angry. Honestly, I don't think it would take many years (if even that..) for him to grow out of his super-awkwardness. A bit of it in his personality is adorable of course, but it doesn't have to rule his personality to the point where he's unable to flourish from it. That's the kind of thing people use AGAINST Zutara, after all.

I think Zuko was absolutely one of my favorite chararcters of A:TLA. He had such big a character development, a "metamorphsis" in the words of Uncle, that just made me love him. I remember when I first watched the show,(the first episodes) I thought he was just an "angry freak with a ponytail", but then I got to really understand why he wanted to catch Aang so badly. I had so many feels (one of many) when he was talking to Aang after he captured him in the siege of the north episode. The fact that he had to work for his father's love was a tear jerker for me, but in the end it really did make him who he was. The cold resentment from Ozai, the banishment, the scar... these things all changed him for the better. He got lost along the way, but in the end he found the right path and chose to do the right thing. One of the things I love most about Zuko is that he was conflicted. He was practically being bullied within his own mind. This might be a weird thing to love, but I could really connect to him and truly understand how he can't quite decide what to do, who to follow when there's so much happening in his over-troubled mind already. I felt like maybe at one time, Zuko was an insomniac because all the pressure that surrounded him made it hard for him to do anything other than think about his life and just replaying Ozai's (and occasionaly Azula's) mean banters towards him in his head. Once again, that's what made him strong. I also liked how adorkably turtleduck cute he was. On the outside, towards S1/S2, he tried to keep up appearances (mostly in S1), he tried to be the perfect prince for his father and work hard to regain his honor, but on the inside he was really just a teenager trying to fit the pieces of his life together. He was so hot-tempered, but I believe that it was mostly due to the fact that he was so tired of looking for the Avatar and just wanted to be in his father's good graces all while discovering himself that he just got overworked over some things. Then in S3, I feel that his time with the GAang and all of the things he had seen, done, felt, had changed him. He had started to see things differently and he understood that what the Fire Nation was doing was wrong and that so many things were wrong, yet he stayed strong. He went from a confused, self-torn, angry caterpillar to a beautiful, knowing...seeing butterfly....dragonfly? That is why Zuko will probably be one of my all time favorite characters. That and he's just so darn adorable!

LOL the Zuko hate on Avatar Amira is kind of fucking amazing.
So Zuko's an 'asshole' to Aang is he? He's short sometimes, he's very much 'to the point' with his criticism (though no more than on himself I might add), he was abrasive in TSR (which he had pretty valid reasons for, sorry to burst that bubble) and he was sarcastic about the gluebending because, you know, it was ridiculous and he wanted him thinking straight. He chased him when he was goofing off on a beach party because he felt he was the only one taking anything seriously- he TESTED him. You know. So that he would be ready. Oh and he was worrying his arse off on Appa when they went off to fight Azula. Yeah he wasn't worried about losing himself, not worried about him or Katara at that moment, he was worried about AANG and he had a real REASON to, because Aang was turning up short the other night and he wasn't even able to best the MELON LORD for Pete's sake, because he didn't 'feel right' doing it. You know. Even though everyone's lives are at stake and you can't even do it in practice. Zuko even gave him some space because he knows- HE KNOWS that he needs it. He could be getting in his face saying how weak he is. THAT would be assholish. But no. He leaves it to Aang to sort it out himself- he even advises Katara to leave him be. Even though it wasn't in ZUKO'S interests or anyone elses' because you know, I'm sorry to put it this way but when the world's on your shoulders it's neither the time nor the place to be appeasing a century-old culture of peacetime that has no relevance in the current fucking context. Also don't forget that when in the Avatar State, Admiral Zhao got, you know, killed. Something to bear in mind. Ugh. And don't get me started in that 'Promise' remark, this is not the place. But Zuko went a good number of steps back in The Promise for no good reason, and as far as everyone else.. I don't even know. Oh and a little trivia for dummies- at the end, Aang said 'we're friends' and Zuko returned that sentiment. Cue a big bro hug. ERGO, THEY ARE FRIENDS. THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FRIENDS. IT'S THAT FUCKING SIMPLE.
..I don't even know why I stalk that forum. I think I do it just to get riled up and rebut their arses. I'm a glutton for punishment as they say. This would go in anti-Zutara rebuttals but it's very much Zuko centric so it's going in here, for the love of Zuko.
