Are there any fan theories about books/movies/tv shows that you've read? Good ones, great ones, terrible ones? If so, please share them on this thread and comment with your own opinions. =)
I'll start this off:
I... actually kind of believe this one. XD But maybe Doc had known that it would work because he remembered it working back in 1955 when he had helped send Marty back to the future? Still, the look of absolute shock on his face when it did work is kind of startling when you watch the movie over again. Plus, the fact that he said "if my calculations are correct" - IF! Like he wasn't sure that they were. And when it did work, he claimed that Einstein became the world's first time traveler, even though he had witnessed time travel happening before that point, back in 1955 when Marty sought him out. It seems that he had no memories of these events during the original 1985 where he was gunned down by terrorists, only remembering these events when Marty returns to the new 1985 where he had survived his terrible fate by having on a bullet-proof vest. Sooo, yeah... I guess he could have been a bit suicidal by placing himself in front of something like that during the testing stage. But then again, maybe he knew it would work and maybe he had that bullet vest on the first time around (I didn't see any blood coming out out of the Doc, so it's possible), but we didn't get to see that because Marty had to leave in a hurry to save his own life. Doc might have remembered everything in the original 1985 but didn't let on that he had.
I don't know. Time is confusing. XD
I'll start this off:
Doc Brown in Back to the Future was actually suicidal by the time he built the DeLorean time machine and was determined to kill both himself and Marty if it did not work. He spent his entire family fortune through decades of failed inventions and was likely bankrupt by the time he finished the DeLorean. When the (basically untested!) time machine accelerates to nearly 100mph, he stands directly in its path and forces Marty to remain by his sideā¦ yet both of them look equally shocked when the car vanishes before their very eyes. Despite his eventual elation at his successful experiment, that was not an outcome he expected.
