Rated M, and only has 6 chapters right now, and it's set in a 18th century AU that really plays out nice. www.fanfiction.net/s/7954323/1/The-Courtesan

My recommendations are probably ones everyone has read already, but here they are. Author: Fandomme Story Title: Stormbenders Completed: Yes Link:http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4088139/1/Stormbenders Rating: T Warnings: Its addicting! Other Included Ships: Suki/Sokka (kinda) Summary: Deep in the Fire Nation jungle, the Gaang meets a group of rogue water ninja who send Zuko and Katara on a mission to retrieve Ozai's secret battle plans. Why You Would Recommend It: It is full of action and the right amount of fluff and the author does a great job of keeping everyone in character. The romance isn't too rushed, and is appropriate for the story. It also makes you laugh a lot! Umm, next one would probably be My Heart Burns For You. Author: AlwaysZutarian Story Title: My Heart Burns For You Completed: Not yet (although it has been in progress forever and has over half a million words so far) Link: www.fanfiction.net/s/4527436/1/My-Heart-Burns-for-YouRating: M (the smuttier version is included in her profile) Warnings: It takes FOREVER to see Zutara, but that is what makes the story that much better. It has a way of sucking you in. Other Included Ships: Suki/Sokka and a bit of Taang. (Oh and Maiko and Kataang in parts) Summary: Four years have passed since the end of the war, but as they meet again and encounter many obstacles, Zuko and Katara realize that what their hearts truly burn for is for one another. Can they love each other knowing they will hurt those that love them? What will become of them when a new enemy appears with a vengeful plot to destroy everything they had worked for to bring peace? Why You Would Recommend It: The author does a great job of adding to the story, and has a lot of ups and downs that keep you addicted. Oh...and of course I love The Black Games. But who couldn't love that story??

Author: Treacle ChipStory Title: "Always the Light" Completed: Yes Link: www.fanfiction.net/s/5470770/1/Rating: KWarnings: First Person, Present Tense, Not necessarily romantic Other Included Ships: None Summary: The events of Book Three: Fire; Chapter 12: "The Western Air Temple" through Chapter 19: "Sozin's Comet, Part 2: The Old Masters" in Appa's point of view Why You Would Recommend It: While this One Shot isn't necessarily romantic, it touches on the subtleties of the change in Katara and Zuko's relationship, from enemies to friends to potentially building something more. The writing style was interesting to me, too.

Author:jennibare Story Title:Each Other Completed:Yes Link:http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5301972/1/ Rating:M Warnings:Few grammatical errors. Parts and ending a bit rushed. OOC Zutara children (If your bothered with anything OOC) Other Included Ships:Light Tokka Summary:In a world where Ozai wins, the Avatar is dead, their families are gone, all Katara and Zuko have is each other. Living in the South Pole they create a life together until they are forced back to the Fire Nation. M for dialogue, situations. Why You Would Recommend It:This is actually one of my favorite Zutara Post-Sozin's comet fics. It has Zutara family, which I love in any fic really. I like the slow build up and the slight angst and pain these two feel, but they ended up finding comfort in each other. Because in the end, that's all they have.

Author: ladymerStory Title: A Red Light Turns OnCompleted: No (although I'm only recommending the first chapter, which was originally a one-shot) Rating: M Warnings: Borderline smut, but it's not explicit and you can gloss over it Other Included Ships: None Summary: Katara is woman without a country, trapped in Japan during the peak of the Pacific War, and ends up finding comfort in the arms of the enemy. Why You Would Recommend It: Well, I'm only recommending the first chapter, which was initially a one-shot, and the only story I read (I think I saw it on LJ, originally). It is an intense story and perhaps the most interesting Zutara AU I've ever read. You won't regret reading the one-shot, I promise.

Author: A Dirty Little SecretStory Title: "As Time Passes By" Completed: Yes Link: www.fanfiction.net/s/6366416/1/As_Time_Passes_ByRating: T Warnings: Angst Other Included Ships: Kataang, Maiko, Sukka Summary: "The dawn of your new nation will come as quickly as the sun has set on your father's empire." Zuko's first year as Fire Lord does not go as he expects. This is a one shot consisting of thirteen drabbles (one for each month and one for the change of year). Why You Would Recommend It: I recommend it because even though Katara and Zuko don't necessarily end up together in the end, there's a lot of character development that suggest maybe they could. It was written before The Promise trilogy came out and therefore, it is rather AU, but I still enjoyed the writing in it.

[b ]Author: LadyAvatar Story Title: Fire and Ice Completed: No. 27 chapters to date. Link: www.fanfiction.net/s/8116098/1/Fire-and-IceRating: T Warnings: (Directly From the Author) This fanfiction will not disregard Kataang, or Jinko, or Maiko, or any of the other shippings that, however briefly, marked the lives of key characters in the show. Other Included Ships: Tokka Does not disregard: Kataang, Jinko, & Maiko Summary: (Directly from the Author) A Zutara epic that begins with a simple question: What if Zuko joined the team following "The Chase?" It is more than one prince of fire whose redemption saga unfolds across a journey through a desert and into Ba Sing Se, a capture by the Fire Nation and a rescue by an unforeseen ally, a betrayal by family and, to save this love, a sacrifice by the one least expected to give it. Why You Would Recommend It: I have read every chapter of this story to date and I am in love. LadyAvatar does a wonderful job of working with canon while expanding upon it. She takes what the show gives, then goes above and beyond what any other author does with it. I have not seen anything of this sort in the Avatar fandom. It is an epic of epic proportions. She has 9 parts planned and it is currently only on part 3. There is so much more to this story that we do not yet know. I forsee this becoming one of those stories that is talked about throughout the entire fandom. It will become THE Avatar Fanfiction. I have no doubt about it. [/b]

Author: Mrs PettyferStory Title: "The Black Games" Completed: Yes-ish. This is the first of potentially three stories, and this one is complete, but the second one is currently in progress. Link: www.fanfiction.net/s/7023280/1/The-Black-GamesRating: M Warnings: A lot of beloved characters die in this because it is a crossover with The Hunger Games. Other Included Ships: None. Summary: "Once bound by ice, now bound by fire. 12 provinces. 24 tributes. 1 winner. Let the games begin." Twenty-four tributes from twelve different provinces are forced to fight for their lives for the amusement of the Capitol. Why You Would Recommend It: While it is, at times, extremely depressing, and while it does take your suspension of disbelieve to be active (because it's not the world as we knew it in A:TLA), it is still really well written. There are a few grammatical mistakes, but they're easily overlooked in favor of the writing style and how well these characters are written. They're still a lot like the characters we know and love, but there are differences because they live in a different world than the one of the show. It's rare that I have a fanfiction give me as many feelings as this one did. I have to say that it does not strictly follow the plot of the book from which it draws its inspiration, and it is better because of that. You can see where inspiration was drawn, but there are enough differences that it is its own thing, and that makes it wonderful.

Author: Little Robin Story Title: And if Tomorrow Completed: Yes Link: www.fanfiction.net/s/5946172/1/And-if-TomorrowRating: T Warnings: Prepare for some major sadness. Not a sad ending though. Other Included Ships: I can't remember.. Summary: "And in today, walks tomorrow - When the very ties of Destiny are at risk and a hidden source is threatening everything they know, will Zuko and Katara be able to work together to save all they've ever loved or will Destiny unravel before their very eyes." Why You Would Recommend It: This is not your average "finding Ursa" fic. There is some major plot twists going on that I didn't see coming. I've also never been so sad in a fic before, and this one made me tear up. You don't realize how impacting it is until the end. Very good story.

Author: Boo-82 Story Title: Fall of the White Lotus Completed: Yes Link: www.fanfiction.net/s/4564525/1/Fall-of-the-White-LotusRating: T Warnings: Some grammatical errors that can be a little irritating when reading. Also, includes the ability to bend while in the spirit world which is obviously not in line with canon (seems like the author may have just forgotten?), some characters slightly OOC (Toph, specifically) Other Included Ships: Taang, Sukka Summary: Grandmaster Iroh sends Katara and Zuko on a quest to prevent the fall of the Order of the White Lotus. They'll have to find Zuko's mother, before autumn turns to winter. An epic story about legendary love Why You Would Recommend It: I love this fic because it hits all of my subtle-within-canon shipping feels. Basically, this fic is the perfect post-canon zutara adventure that I wish we could have in comic book or show form. It has adventure, lots of really cool references to events that happened in the show (even things that were pointed out that made me go "OH! I never even realized that!"), really good development of believable Zutara but doesn't skimp on developing the other ships (namely Taang). The plot is nearly airtight and there are plenty of feely feels to be had. Also some Blue Spirit/Painted Lady stuff. The author also does some really cool things with the plot concept of Katara and Zuko searching for Ursa, specifically in regard to explaining what Ursa was up to while banished. Overall just a really, really great fic.
